Portland Botox temporarily relaxes facial muscles to reduce wrinkles and fine lines.

Wrinkle Relaxers

Botulinum Toxin, also known as Botox, helps to relax muscle movement and smooth and prevent unwanted wrinkles (like the eleven's, forehead, crow's feet, and lip lines while simultaneously lifting the brows when desired. These neuromodulators block the muscle's signals to the brain so they temporarily aren't able to move. Less movement equals fewer wrinkles and smoother skin.

  • As with any medical grade aesthetic treatment, bruising can happen. Here are some suggestions to help minimize bruising risk:

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! When you are drinking enough water, your skin is more likely to have proper hydration levels and this supports wound healing. You want to get about 11 cups of water in a day to maintain proper hydration.

Take Arnica 30 C homeopathic tablets 3 pellets, 3 times a day, for 3 days before and after treatment. The evidence does not consistently show that homeopathic arnica is effective, however there are studies showing that it works. Given that arnica is readily available, inexpensive, and safe, it is reasonable to initiate prior-to and after treatment for those who bruise easily or are concerned about bruising.

Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your treatment. Alcohol makes it harder for the blood to clot which increases bruising risk.

Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, fish oil, and gingko for about one week prior to your treatment. These medications increase bleeding and bruising.

  • The appointment itself takes less than 30 minutes.

Small bumps that appear from injection are normal and will most likely be gone by the time you get to your car but may last a few hours.

Full results can take 2 weeks to fully set in.

  • You may be sent home with ice. Keep the ice on the treated area throughout the day (10-15 minutes on the hour) to help with any swelling that may occur

Avoid facial treatments for 2 weeks after treatment

Limit exercise for 6 hours post treatment

Avoid the sauna for 24 hours post treatment

Avoid retinol and exfoliating acids for 3 days afterwards

Some clients experience mild side effects such as headache, which typically resolves within a few days.

Keep your head above your heart for 4 hours after treatment.

If you experience severe side effects such as trouble swallowing, breathing, or intense and painful swelling at the injection sites, call 911 immediately.

 FAQs

  • BOTOX® and Dysport® are derived from the bacteria Clostridium Botulinum (botulinum toxin-a) and temporarily block the connection between nerves and muscles. They are used to treat and prevent wrinkles in men, women, and non gender conforming folx. The creases around your forehead, eyes, and between your brows that develop with time are known as dynamic wrinkles and are caused by muscle movement. With aging and repeated muscle activity, these wrinkles deepen and form permanent creases. By intercepting muscle movement, neuromodulators like Botox and Dysport relax these muscles. When treated with the recommended dosing, you can expect 3-4 months duration.

  • More units of Dysport are used than Botox in a treatment. Dysport will start to relax muscles around 24-48 hours. Botox can take up to a week. Dysport spreads over a wider area. Botox is preferred for deeper lines and targeted areas.

  • BOTOX® and Dysport® are administered with a very little needle that causes little discomfort.

  • Bruising is the most common side effect. See pre-treatment recommendations for ways to minimize bruising.
