As with any medical grade aesthetic treatment, bruising can happen. Here are some suggestions to help minimize bruising risk:
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! When you are drinking enough water, your skin is more likely to have proper hydration levels and this supports wound healing. You want to get about 11 cups of water in a day to maintain proper hydration.
Take Arnica 30 C homeopathic tablets 3 pellets, 3 times a day, for 3 days before and after treatment. The evidence does not consistently show that homeopathic arnica is effective, however there are studies showing that it works. Given that arnica is readily available, inexpensive, and safe, it is reasonable to initiate prior-to and after treatment for those who bruise easily or are concerned about bruising.
Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your treatment. Alcohol makes it harder for the blood to clot which increases bruising risk.
Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, fish oil, and gingko for about one week prior to your treatment. These medications increase bleeding and bruising.
-
Topical numbing cream is offered prior to treatment. Pain with injections is uncommon, however you may feel pressure or discomfort in the areas being filled.
It is common to experience swelling in the injected area which typically subsides within 48-72 hours.
Bruising may appear in the hours after the appointment and can remain for about a week. These gradually fade with time.
Aftercare
-
Swelling is normal and it will come down!
It is normal for asymmetries to be present in the treated area, especially in the lips and this can last up to 2 weeks.
It is normal for the treated areas to feel firm. This will subside over 2 weeks.
Ice, arnica, and antihistamines can help the treated areas heal along.
-
Keep the injection area clean by avoiding touch and topicals like makeup and sunscreen for 24 hours post injection.
Avoid massage to the treated area unless otherwise advised.
Avoid exercise for 24 hours.
Ice is provided. Keep light ice on the treated area for 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off throughout the injection day. This will help with swelling and to minimize bruising.
Keep your head above your heart for 4 hours post procedure.
Keep it clean! Clean your phone’s screen, use a clean mask and clean pillow case.
-
Difficulty with breathing or swallowing.
Intense pain in the treated area.
Swelling that does not improve.
Change in color or temperature to the skin.
