Improve the appearance of your skin, and hair with PRP treatments in Portland.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy uses your own blood, that has been concentrated down into the active platelets, growth factors, and stem cells. This concentrated liquid has been shown to regenerate and rejuvenate the skin, hair, and under eye area. It improves skin texture, fine lines, wrinkles, neck, décolletage, and back of hands. Collagen, which gives your skin a plump and young look is produced, as are new vessels which bring blood flow and nutrients to the area. When we are treating hair loss, PRP stimulates the hair follicles to become active. Because this is from your own body, it is non allergenic and eliminates possibility of donor transmissible infections. This is a science based, simple and quick procedure with no downtime and minimal rate of adverse events.

What to Expect

Drink plenty of fluids the day before and the day of your procedure. If you are dehydrated, it is harder to draw your blood and you will not have as much plasma.
Avoid blood thinning agents such as ibuprofen, Aleve, naproxen, and aspirin for 7 days prior to your procedure. It’s okay to take tylenol (acetaminophen) because this does not thin your blood and increase bruising risk. Don’t stop any prescribed medication unless consulting with your physician.
Please stop herbal blood thinning supplements for 7 days prior including St. John’s Wort, garlic, vitamin E, ginkgo, fish oil, etc.
Don’t dye your hair for the 24 hours prior to your PRP hair growth treatment.

We begin with discussing our goals and by taking pictures to help us visualize the results and track our progress. We then perform a blood draw of 1-2 tubes from the arm, and then we generously numb the skin of the face and neck. The blood is then entered into the centrifuge to separate the plasma and platelets from the whole blood.
For my Workhorse Facial service, I apply many superficial injections of the platelet rich-mixture into the skin. Then microneedling comes in to help integrate the treatment and add extra collagen stimulation. You also have the option to only focus on specific areas.
For the hair and head, we will begin by icing and then repeat the process above.
Treatments will be tailored to the individual. Whether you want to focus on the under eye, the lip, the neck and/or the whole face, we will make a plan accordingly, and can choose our areas of focus per visit.

FAQs

This treatment can be quite painful. Dr. Heather Friedman offers a lidocaine block which is super helpful in maximizing comfort. If you prefer otherwise, we use topical numbing and ice for comfort.

Your results will be long lasting, especially if you commit to a series of treatments. The ideal protocol for a PRP facial resurfacing and restoration is three treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. For PRP hair loss, we recommend 3 treatments spaced 3 months a apart then 3 treatents spaced 3 months apart. Yearly/biannual treatments from then on depending on the individual.
-
The healthier our blood, the stronger the results will be. If our hair follicles are healthy, they will also respond better to further stimulation from the treatment. This encourages us to take care of ourselves, internally, too, as part of our investment in the treatment, and, ultimately, the sooner you receive treatment, the better.
