The quality of our skin can be an indication of how our overall health and well being is perceived. Poor skin quality affects our self-perception and quality of life.  Perhaps you are like me and went through a period of ‘bad skin’ in your youth; the social discomfort this caused me was real.  This week I introduce the newest product on the market which has been proven to enhance skin quality, hydration, and texture.

Changes in our skin happen from internal factors such as aging and also external factors like pollution and sun exposure.  These lead to visible signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, and unevenness.  Structural changes in the skin that cause aging are in part from cellular damage leading to a reduction in collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid (1).

I’m excited to introduce juvederm’s latest hyaluronic acid gel, Skinvive, into my practice.  This product has been used in Europe since 2017 and is finally approved for use in the US as of this past May.  Skinvive is unique in that it is designed to correct superficial lines and improve skin quality by enhancing the skin’s hydration.  Results last 6-9 months and you can expect an improvement in skin quality, and texture with reduction of fine lines.

Hydration of our skin is an important component of skin quality.  It impacts fine lines and texture, the visible glow, and skin tightness.  Further, older and sun damaged skin loses its ability to stay hydrated. Increased skin hydration has been shown to increase smoothness of the skin (2). Skinvive works by binding water molecules and adding plumpness to the skin, leading to a smoother appearance.

Historically, hyaluronic dermal fillers are injected to replace volume loss.  Skinvive is different in that it is injected just below the surface of the skin and works by increasing the skin’s hydration.  Results last about 6 months, down time is minimal, and the treatment takes about 20 minutes.

Ask about Skinvive at your next appointment to see if you are a good candidate.  For the next couple of months, allergan has coupons we can apply.  I’m excited to share more as I integrate this into my treatment armamentarium.

Thanks for reading.

With love and gratitude,
Heather
