PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP)
What is the process? The preparation for PRP treatments is simple, quick, and occurs in-office at your scheduled appointment time. Prior to your treatment, we will collect blood from your arm, just like other typical blood draws you have experienced. The amount of blood drawn is dependent on your procedure and is anywhere between 2 and 6 tubes. The blood is then spin down for 15 minutes in a specialized centrifuge, designed to optimize platelet and stem cell extraction. During this time, we will cleanse the treatment area and apply a numbing cream for 30 minutes. Once the centrifuge is complete and you have been comfortably numbed, the doctor will extract your platelet rich plasma and inject the solution into the dermis of you skin. These platelets and stem cells gradually increase collagen which increased skin thickness and overall appearance of your skin. There are a few caveats to mention. If we are filling in wrinkles or doing a 'lift' of the skin, then the platelets have to be processed through a specialized heater prior to injection. If we are using the micro needling machine, then the platelets will be smeared over the face rather than injected.
What facial and body areas can be treated?
Head for hair loss
Around the eyes
Cheeks and Mid face
Back of hands
Other Body Areas
What are the benefits of Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy? We are using YOUR OWN blood, that has been concentrated down into the active platelets, growth factors, and stem cells. This concentrated liquid has been shown to regenerate and rejuvenate the skin. It improves skin texture, fine lines, and wrinkles of the face, neck, décolletage, and back of hands. Collagen, which gives your skin a plump and young look is produced, as are new vessels which bring blood flow and nutrients to the area. When we are treating hair loss, PRP stimulates the hair follicles to become active. Because this is from your own body, it is non allergenic and eliminates possibility of donor transmissible infections.
Do I need a skin test? No you do not. PRP is completely autologous, meaning it comes from you, and is therefore non allergenic.
Are results immediate? Results are not immediate. You will see immediate swelling and wound healing after the treatment, however collagen rejuvenation and hair growth can take 6 weeks depending on your skin's condition and lifestyle choices. More than one treatment is recommended, particularly with mature skin and hair loss.
What is the recommended protocol? For facial rejuvenation, 3 treatments within a 2 month time period is recommended. For hair loss, 1 treatment a month for 6 months is recommended. You can then touch up on a yearly/year and a half basis for both the facial rejuvenation and hair loss treatments.
How long do results last? This treatment is intended to regenerate collagen and the lasting results will depend on the care and maintenance of your skin. With that being said, in most cases, you can expect 3 treatments to last up to 18 months.
Does the treatment hurt? These therapies involve administering PRP via an injection so you can expect some sensation. Topical or local anesthetics is administered in most cases for facial rejuvenation and on an as needed basis for hair loss.
What can I expect after the treatment? You can expect redness, swelling, slight pain, bruising, or all these signs in the treatment area. These side effects typically subside in a few hours to a few days. Use sunblock and avoid the sun for a couple of days after the treatment, until you are healed, to avoid sun spots. Avoid very hot water and heavy exercise for a couple of days as well.
Can I return to work immediately? Most clients can return to work immediately
